Although a long time has passed, and Taiwan has “adapted and changed its political system”several times, the traces of Japanese occupation have still affected Taiwanese culture and their way of life up until today. They are in education, art, buildings, architecture, and basic infrastructures, all of which give off “subtle Japanese traits” that many people may not even notice. War and colonization leave behind legacies, traumas, and influences as to how people view each other. So, how will the current Taiwanese population, who have grown up with “new memories”, see the image of Japan?
