Among those transformations was the opening of the platform for women to acquire “more active roles” in Turkish society. But their journey hasn’t been easy. Dissatisfaction with the more traditional roles of women has caused many women, especially those in the rural regions, to “stand up and fight”…while questioning what society has been telling them…specifically in regards “to what they should be?” For almost a century, the feminist movement has driven forward “stories of hope” for Turkish women. While their future remains unpredictable…we witness “a clear phenomenon” in today’s rally on International Women’s Day, as it focuses major feminist concerns from women’s self-defense training…all the way to the making of demands in the justice system.
